My first reviews of 2015 (2 book series) Griminirs & Souls Ednah Walters

This was a great story however it had a few intertwining story's about different characters so I suggest that to get a true picture of all the characters that the first book in the parallel series be read first. I have liked reading this book but I did find the story line to be too complex and complicated at times.

The main character is Cora; she is a fairly ordinary girl who we meet at the start of the book when she is suffering memory loss issues. From there Cora gets thrown into a world which some of her friends are already aware of, a world of God's and Valkyries much like in Norse mythology. Along her journey of enlightenment she finds that she has developed a new and slightly disturbing power and has become a pawn in a game that was made to tempt a God. Cora falls for the ultimate bad boy and together they prove to be a force to be reckoned with. I liked Cora as a character; I very much enjoyed reading about how she grows as a character and deals with difficult situations and how her relationships grew.

The secondary characters include Echo, Raine, Torin and Andris. Echo is Cora's love interest throughout the book; he is a broody male character and the ultimate bad boy. Raine is Cora's best friend and stands by her through everything and is already involved in the world Cora has been forced into. Torin and Andris are there to protect Cora from the danger that surrounds her; Torin is also Raine's boyfriend.

The storyline I feel is very complex and therefore slightly complicated, the intertwining story also made it confusing at times. Overall the issues caused by these factors only have a slight influence on the storyline so it still makes for an enjoyable read.

The pacing was good leaving it until the very last minute before allowing the reader to find out the fate of Cora and her friends.

3 stars an enjoyable read

This book has a much more straight forward storyline which I liked as it made it a very easy read. I will absolutely 100% continue reading books in this series but I feel I will go back first and read the first book in the intertwining book as reading about it in these first two books has peaked my curiosity.

The main character in this book is the same as in the first which makes it very easy to become instantly interested in the story. In this book Cora is coming to terms with being an immortal as well as furthering her relationship with Echo. Cora encounters a dark soul for the first time and it puts a strain on her relationship with Echo. Cora in this book is strong and independent, she holds her own and puts up a fight when she has to, and she is becoming a great heroine in the series.

The secondary characters are Raine, Echo and Dev. Raine is Cora's best friend however is in this book struggling with the death of her father, she does however find a little hope in prom. Echo is Cora's boyfriend, in this book he is faced with characters from his past and the big mistake he might have made. Dev is a dark spirit from Echo's past, in this book he becomes close to Cora as she tries to help him reconcile with with Echo.

The pacing is very good leaving everything to the last minute to let us know the true threat as well as leaving the big battle till the last minute. I also liked that the characters had some time to be normal ish and stress out about prom.

The storyline in this book was a lot more straight forward than in the first book, it was still full of surprises and thrilling to read however I felt there was a lot less confusion allowing us to fully understand what was going on.

4 stars, better than the first book.
