#035 15th July 2014- Lone wolf rising (the Winters family saga #1), Jami Brumfield
**I got this book in exchange for an honest review**
I really did enjoy this book, it was the kind of book that made me go crazy- in a good way- trying to figure out who the main character should be with and in the end the obvious choice was made but there’s still a lot left open which will hopefully be explored in book 2.
The main characters are a family of twin sisters and a brother, Rebecca and Savannah and Hunter. Rebecca is really the main focus of this book 1 in the series however Savannah and Hunter do have chapters dedicated to their story and point of view. I liked Rebecca as a character; she was very real and easy to understand, although she did face one of the issues faced by most of two boys liking her and she kind of almost resorted to the whole whiney girl approach- this was lessened by the other things going on around her and her new life. I really couldn’t decide which of the two options was the best for her which I found very refreshing. I also liked that the alpha in her mind was not only a guiding figure but an independent character in itself.
The secondary characters include Savannah, Hunter, Lucky and Gabrielle as well as many others. Savannah is Rebecca’s twin sister and is completely different to her, I like that Rebecca is desperate for Savannah not to be included in the world she has entered. Hunter is also someone Rebecca wants to protect, he is her little brother who is strong and independent in his own way. Lucky and Gabrielle are Rebecca’s two love interest, they offer the story its main complication and help the story progress.
The pacing was slightly off as I felt there was a lot pushed in quite messily into the last few chapters but it did not retract from the reading experience. I would normally have preferred if there was a bit more of the background story about Rebecca’s parents being offered throughout the book and not just in the last chapter. However I hope to get more of this information in book 2 as well as news on Rebecca’s love life. In affect the pacing of this book was a great book to introduce the characters but I feel book 2 will really be the one to go into detail on the story line.
The story line as said before was largely based on Rebecca and getting to know the family the series is going to be based around. I liked that this book is offering a solid foundation that will help the other books in the series move forward.
I loved this book. 3.5 stars.
