#069 25/11/14- The Butterfly Crest (The Protogenoi Series, #1), Eva Vanrell
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal) goodreads.com**
This book is an in depth, slightly confusing story about Gods; I absolutely loved reading this book however I feel it is a story which has to be read more than once to understand fully the authors complex meanings. I still however found myself sucked into this story by the unique, in depth and imaginative pictures given to us by the author.
The main character is Elena, she is a 26 year old woman who’s story really begins when she receives word from Japan in relation to her mother’s will. This sets into action a whole chain of events which leads her to learn of her true heritage and of a prophecy which involves her. I liked the realness of Elena as a character; she faces all the problems that face her head on and without concern for herself. She is in my opinion a truly strong female character that would be placed terribly in any position but the main character.
The secondary characters although are often fleeting in this book help Elena come to terms with her new found heritage and inform her as well as befriend her allowing and helping her become the strong lead she needs to be to overcome the problems facing her.
The pacing of this book was brilliant, giving us exactly what we want to know when the time is right, keeping us on edge until the very last minute and making us want to read more. I also liked the big twist ending which has made me desperate to read more.
The storyline is original and fascinatingly imaginitive giving us a completely new environment, prophecy and characters that I can’t wait to read more about. However the storyline is incredibly complex so a little confusing I do think that this will go away when I get the chance to read it again.
3.5 stars (due to change after 2nd reading.)
