#007 18th May: AMULET OF ELUSION (THE LOST AMULET CHRONICLES #1) KATIE LYNN JOHNSON

I really don't know what to say about this book, I neither loved it nor hated it- there that's a pretty good start.

The main characters Alexa and Caleb never really seem to establish their relationship- at the start they just kind of know each other and this very quickly escalates and then all of a sudden they're married. It kind of took me by surprise not only because I felt there was no or very little lead up to it but because in honesty I do not like Caleb as a character, he just seems a bit arrogant, pig headed and not a particularly like able character. Alexa also was a bit annoying playing on the 'I'm really not the one for the job' role a bit too much and her world being so utterly dependent on Caleb. It also annoyed me towards the end the whole 'I'm doing this to protect you'-- 'now I'm pissed, you have no right to protect me' and then back to the 'I'm doing this to protect you' again. After a while it just feels like we're going round in circles.

I really liked the secondary characters, Ivy, Novella, Sophie and Sam, pretty much all of them to be honest.

The pacing I honestly thought was brilliant except from the pacing of the relationship of Alexa and Caleb which I thought appeared from nowhere and escalated far too quickly.

The story lone was also great; I found the stones giving powers and then people abusing the powers very enjoyable.
