#008 19th May 2014: A DARKER BLOOD (VERADO #1) JENNIFER LAWRENCE
I did enjoy this book however I thought it was a bit like Twilight book 2 ‘New Moon’, it was not exactly the same just had very similar parts i.e. girl cannot live without guy kind of things.
The main characters Marshall and Nicole are brought together after an incident leaves Nicole scared for her life. Marshall is a strong broody male with deep and dark secrets; whereas Nicole is an adventurous girl who always seems to get into trouble. The two of them are madly in love (true love) a really nice kind of love where they are both completely involved and even divulge many many secrets. One thing that kind of annoyed me was how helpless and dependent on him Nicola becomes once Marshall drinks her blood. The blood lust does explain this a little but I was still left with the ‘new moon’ feeling of ‘pull yourself together girl he’s just a boy’.
The secondary characters are very likeable especially Katya who is scary and loveable all at the same time; in fact I liked all of Marshall’s ‘family’.
The story pacing was good and the background story of the serial murder kept me- the reader- interested and involved in the story.
The story line was interesting; I thought it was good how I got to see how the other people in the city interacted with the covern of vampires.
All in all an enjoyable book despite the new moon flash backs. 3.5 stars.
