#067 Finding Esta, Shah Wharton

#067 16/11/14- Finding Esta (The Supes Series #1), Shah Wharton

**I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review (NA book club), Goodreads.com**

This book had a fantastic story however I found parts of it confusing. There was a good mix of paranormal, fantasy and NA, giving us a fantastic and detailed story that would appeal to almost everyone. The characters were well written allowing us to connect with them from page one as well as creating an in depth profile of their lives before the book started.

The main character is Luna, she is a twenty something year old journalist suffering from mental illness and abusive parents. She travels to Cornwall to follow a story she heard about while at the hairdressers and her life begins to spiral out of control. Her life takes a turn with a story full of unexplainable problems and solutions that are actually oddly familiar to the problems that she is forced to face in real life. I liked Luna’s character however the voices in her head and internal dialogue rendered me confused quite a lot of the times, luckily not all parts of this were necessary to understand the storyline or I feel that may have hindered my reading experience.

There were many secondary characters in this book so I have picked the ones that I feel most noteworthy in each aspect of Luna’s life, these include: Jack, Raphael and Abby. Jack is Luna’s father; he partakes in the abuse she has suffered throughout her life however it does not seem as though he enjoys it as much as Luna’s mother Helen. Raphael is Esta’s mother, when Luna’s life spirals out of control Raphael is I feel the one who takes charge, she makes Luna believe that she is Esta and that Esta is her daughter. Abby is the person who has been searching for Esta his entire life, he feels strongly connected to her due to Esta being his mate. I found that these characters added to the story in a way that moves the story along and keeps it interesting.

The pacing was good, moving the story along at a decent pace keeping the story interesting and introducing new characters and twists in the story. I thought the ending was slightly rushed confusing things a bit but I feel that in reflection it probably added to the story and makes me want to read more.

The storyline was really original introducing a mix of three genres that I have never read before and I found it to be very satisfying. There were a lot of twists that made the story a little difficult to follow however the main character was so brilliantly written that it kept you reading until the end.

3.5 stars a good read, I will look out for this series in future as I would love to know how the main character progresses.
