#065 04/11/14- Chasing Luck (Serendipity #1)
**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review New Adult Book Club Goodreads.com**
I actually found this book quite confusing; however I kind of think that maybe that was the point. I found that there was two very different and almost unrelated storylines, one which was solely focused on the romance between the main characters and one which was based on the unfortunate life of one of them.
The main characters are Malerie and Ace. Malerie has had an unfortunate life since the death of her mother when she was seven when her care giver dies on her 18th birthday nothing has changed. Ace meets Malerie not long before the death of her uncle on her 18th birthday, her uncle has asked him to become protection for when Malerie goes to university. Ace is instantly attracted to Malerie so turns down the job offered by her uncle however after her uncle dies he feels the need to look after her going to the hospital with her. At the hospital Ace is offered the same job again but by a different member of the family, this time he feels he can’t turn it down. He isn’t working for Malerie long when something else unfortunate happens to her and she shares her secret with him. I wasn’t very sure about Malerie as a character, probably because I prefer sally independent female characters and Malerie didn’t really ever stop being a bit sheltered. I did however like Ace; I liked his strong almost alpha male attitude towards Malerie.
There were very few secondary characters that were mentioned enough to merit mention in this review this is probably due to the main characters being reliant on each other and no one else.
The pacing was lacking a little I felt as it left a lot to the end making it feel rushed as well as not giving us a full explanation of what the last few chapters meant to the storyline.
The storyline was brilliantly original however it did feel as if there was two story’s going on at the same time.
3 stars a good story however I was ultimately confused.
