#050 15th September 2014- Bound to the mist by Lisa Kumar

This book was interesting and intriguing to me as a reader, it wasn't a normal faerie (in this case elves) and human love story where they are joined together to fight a common evil it was a deep and emotional connection between an elf and a human who are trying to restore a civilization and bring back magic while at the same time coming to terms with s change in both their lives regarding each other. I was extremely impressed.

The main characters Cal, calantha and Relian are brought together at an early age. However due to Cal's human upbringing she has been forced into a state of non-belief accepting what she see 's and dreams as nothing more than her imagination until she comes face to face with the man of her dreams Relian. Relian on the other hand has been sure that the girl who comes to him in a dream state is extremely important in reviving the magic in his land and when a mysterious bracelet of her hair appears around his wrist he knows to bring her to his land immediately. The relationship between the two main characters is very on my option one sided since Relian is on his home turf it is Cal who has to dramatically change her life in order to fit in with the ways of his people and be accepted, Relian also knows a lot more than he is ever willing to let on and share with Cal causing endless amounts of arguments. The bracelet of each other's hair they have around their wrists seems to be the driving force for their relationship to progress however they are both incredibly attracted to each other which begs the question why so few intimate moments. I loved Cal as a character as she was loud in regards to making her emotions be known and unforgiving when Relian was seen to be thoughtless in his choice of words.

The secondary characters include Maggie,Talion and Kennel, all of these characters were there from the start of the story for either Cal or Relian. Maggie is Cal's best friend from college who just happens to be dragged along on this journey, she is a stable person in Cal's life offering support and guidance at all times. Talion is the king of the land and Relian's father he understands and tries to impart that understanding onto his son while at the same time teasing Maggie. Kenhel is Cal's best friend, he is present for most of the book as a chaperone to Maggie- although I secretly hope they get together in the rest of the series.

The pacing was great allowing us plenty of time to get to know the characters and their new surroundings as they enter into new territory in terms of relationships and understanding an almost but not quite prophecy. It wasn't a fast paced book posing lots of problems and then solutions but it was very much a story about people (whatever their species may be).

The storyline was original and unlike anything I have read before posing a great new way to look at a paranormal species and a new bunch of very different characters to get to know and follow as their story progresses.

4 stars, a great start to a series I will be following and a new author to look out for in the future.

#051 21st September 2014- Bound to the elvin king by Lisa Kumar

I had real issues with this book, mainly because I just could not buy the relationship between the main characters. I enjoyed every other aspect of this book except from that relationship which to be honest is a pretty big part of it, hence my issues.

I did love both of the main characters but in a completely separate environment, it may have been that in the previous book Maggie's best friend got with Talion's son. Maggie is a cute and sassy girl who argues to no end with Talion. Talion is the king of the faerie realm where this series of books is set, he has a continual flirtatious relationship with Maggie even in the first book however in this book the relationship advances to a stage where we find out they're bond mates. Like I said previously I liked the characters by themselves however just did not get their relationship.

The secondary characters included Relian, Calantha returning characters from the previous books. In this book these two characters are well into their relationship with little time for the main characters. On the few occasions Calantha and Maggie (supposed best friends) were together neither of them seemed to have time for each other. And Relian and Talion have little to say to each other except from matters of political interest. No wonder Calantha and Relian had no idea about Maggie and Talion's secret relationship.

The pacing in this good, it was consistent throughout building on the relationship between Maggie and Talion gradually. The ending was great as it added in the little bit of action that is always needed in books carrying a similar theme. The storyline I thought was a little flat up until the action spurt at the end.

The storyline was in my opinion similar to the previous book, it was due to these things that I did not find this book as enjoyable as the first in the series.

Sorry, this book for me was a bit of a let down 2 stars.
