This was a brilliant read, full of great characters, lovely
imagery and a gripping storyline; I am quickly beginning to love this author. I
found this book to be a great read that had me gripped from the first page, I really
did enjoy this book and I am hoping there will be more books in this series.
The story is about main character Kaylyn, a young girl who’s
job in society was assigned to her from an early age; her job is to fight and
abolish all the evil from the world. When she is called out to a village where
there are suffering from the effects of evil, she finds that the force she
thought she had defeated is needed in the world to sustain balance. She also
finds love and turns a friend against her in an attempt to restore the balance
that has been lost. The main character finds that there are definite gaps in the
knowledge she has been taught and what she has learned through experience;
which has the potential to turn this book into a series of books based on a
rebellion from the dictated society. I thought the main character was a great
and easy to understand female lead that is on par with Katniss Everdeen or Tris
Prior.
The secondary characters which I feel most noteworthy include
but are not limited to Marsa and jorrin. Marsa is Kaylyn’s sister / best friend
figure in this book; Marsa and Kaylyn live together after the death of Kaylyn’s
parents so the two of them have grown up together. Marsa is also a part of the
team that help Kaylyn fight against the evil. Jorrin is the in the same team as
Marsa and Kaylyn to remove evil from the world; he is widely aware that Marsa
is in love with him however he loves Kaylyn.
The pacing of the book is great allowing us a bit of time at
the end to find out the outcome of Kaylyn’s decision and her and Jorrin’s
relationship.
The storyline was brilliantly original in many ways and it
was blended very well to the YA genre of book. It also offered a good reasoning
for the good versus evil battle which I felt was a great addition to this
story.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, 4 stars
