#032 25th June 2014- TURNING CURSE, A. C. HARRAH

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review**

A great adaptation of a traditional story with a twist. I love these types of books that take a story we think we know inside out and flip it on its head making us completely question what we knew before. This book does exactly that and it does not disappoint.

The main character is Liam, he is a Prince who needs to marry before he can become king. Until his parents suggest he marries his best friend then he rejects her in horrendous style. The best friend reacts in the only way she feels fits how badly Liam hurt her and curses him turning him into a frog which he can't change out of until he feels her pain. Liam is a character who has to go through a lot of development before he can become the man he is at the end of the book and this is something that is only made possible through the girl he grows to love, Gabrielle. I did like Liam as a character and enjoyed reading about his personal growth but I also felt that there was a lot about his character that was left unexplored- I would have liked to learn more about where his inability to love started from etc.

The secondary characters were Liam's brother Alan who took his place rather too easily I felt once Liam went missing, Liam's best friend Cordelia who cursed him then ran away from all her responsibilities and Gabrielle/ Riona who Liam fell in love with. Each of these characters added to the story in a unique way and allowed us to get a more thorough view of Liam's life.

The pacing was great leaving us guessing up until the very last minute about the fate of our main character. Also I liked how there were little snippets from other characters lives and how they were doing etc.

The storyline was an original take on a traditional story that added a completely different look into the lives of the characters and the reasons behind the curse.

3 stars
